CAF Chianti with Wine Tasting Half Day Tour Duration: 4.5 hours - half day

Our tour begins with an excursion through one of the most characteristic regions of Tuscany, famous around the world for its wine and the unequalled charm of its countryside. Great patches of woods and vast open spaces filled with vine trees and olive groves are dotted with Romanesque churches, farmhouses, villas and castles of exquisite beauty. Our tour includes a visit to one of several places of historic and artistic interest in an authentic Tuscan village. Also included on the tour is a visit to a renowned area farm where guests will partake in a wine tasting, and be offered a sampling of local cuisine.

The excursions are carried out in different areas of the Chianti region.

Morning Itinerary
We begin our tour with a stroll along the romantic Viale dei Colli up to Piazzale Michelangelo where we stop to admire a wonderful panorama of the old city. The tour continues with a visit of the 15th century "Palazzo Pitti" built for the Pitti family and used by the Medici family as their last place of residence. Once inside we visit the celebrated "Gallery of the Academy", a collection of paintings containing some of the most important works of the masters of painting. Outside the museum a full view of the celebrated Boboli Gardens will be had. Our tour continues with visits to the Cathedral interior topped by Brunelleschi's grandiose cupola, accompanied by Giotto's bell tower, and the Baptistery with its magnificent 14th century bronze doors, and a world famous Gates of Paradise.

Note: Palazzo Pitti is closed on Mondays and will be replaced with the Bargello Museum or the Medici Chapels. The Cathedral cannot be visited on Sundays, National Holidays or for reasons beyond our control.

Afternoon Itinerary
We depart by coach for a brief excursion to Fiesole, a delightful town of Etruscan origin positioned on the hills that surround Florence and the Arno Valley. Our tour continues into the historic center for a visit to the Franciscan Church of Santa Croce where we view the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo and Rossini and other notables. We then travel to and visit the magnificent Uffizi Gallery.

Note: Should the Uffizi Gallery be closed, a visit to the Archaeological Site of the Roman Theater of Fiesole and Piazza della Signoria will take place as alternate. The Gallery is closed on Monday and will be replaced with the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria.

CAF Guided Wine Tasting: Afternoon Duration: 2 hours (half day)

Spend a pleasant afternoon in a charming place, with an expert sommelier, tasting and discussing the wines of the Tuscan region. The aim of our course is to reveal the best ways for one to appreciate a goblet of wine using sight, smell and taste. All of the senses must be involved for us to capture the full experience of the wine. We will be provided with descriptions of the wine, its territory of origin, the growing process, wine making techniques, the times required in the cellar, and the importance of using an appropriate glass. We will taste 4 fine wines provided by select Tuscan producers; while Italian salami, breads and focaccia (flat seasoned breads) are served.

CAF Half Day Excursion to Pisa Duration: 5 hours (half day)

Our tour begins with a pleasant excursion through the fertile and picturesque Tuscan countryside as we head towards the architectural masterpiece that is Pisa. Once in the city we will be treated to a panoramic view of the beautiful quaysides, then begin a guided visit on foot of the Piazza dei Cavalieri, where one of the most famous universities in the world, the La Normale is located. The tour proceeds to Piazza dei Miracoli where we will view what is perhaps the most recognizable of all Italian monuments, the celebrated Leaning Tower. We will then visit the Cathedral and the Baptistery, two masterworks of 11th and 12th century Romanesque architecture. Next we will examine the entire Piazza dei Miracoli and all of the important monuments to be found there.

Florence Full Day Tours

CAF Siena and San Gimignano Full Day Tour Duration: Full day

Our Siena and San Gimignano tour begins with a fascinating excursion through the delightful hills and ever changing scenery of the Chianti countryside. Out of the many vineyards and olive trees will appear a tiny city atop a hill, this is San Gimignano. San Gimignano was the Manhattan of Medieval Italy with over 70 towers forming a rather impressive skyline. Today the 13 remaining towers are the city's claim to fame, as are the many frescos and other artistic jewels kept within its walls. After touring San Gimignano we will make our way to Siena where we will be provided with free time for lunch (not included). A guided tour of this magnificent mediaeval city will follow, during which the Cathedral, the Piazza del Campo - one of the most beautiful squares in Europe, the Town Hall and the church of San Domenico with its many treasures of Italian art will be viewed. As we begin our way back we will view the Medieval village of Monteriggioni completely enclosed by its original defensive walls.
