The hotel building has been known as the Palazzo dell'Aquila since 1300 and belonged to the ancient noble Della Scala family. It became an inn in the XV century and the Grand Hotel Imperiale in XVII century where distinguished guests as Mozart, Goethe, and Francis I stayed. It is situated in the old city center, next to the church of Sant'Anastasia and a stone's throw away from Romeo and Juliet's famous balcony, Piazza Dante and Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza Bra with the famous Arena is 15 minutes away walking.
