People say that Roman Consul Cicerone build his mansion on the site of this hotel, which is a villa that was constructed around 1700. Marco Mario, a Roman friend of his that lived in Pompeii, described how beautiful and magnificent the location was (and is).

At the end of the 17th century, a noble family of Vico built their villa as it exists today on the ruins of that Roman mansion. At the end of the 19th century, it was transformed into a hotel, among the first in the Sorrento Peninsula.
